GreenCoffee is a café located in the United Kingdom ofLondon. GreenCoffee strives to deliver organic and fresh coffee. They offer a wide spectrum of competitive pricing. GreenCoffee's target customers include hectic commuters and office workers.
UX designer designing an app for GreenCoffee from conception to delivery.
Conduct interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conduct usability studies, accessibility considerations, and design iteration.
Busy workers and commuters lack the time to buy a coffee.
Design an ordering app that allows the user to easily order and pick up.
To understand the users, I'm creating for and their needs, I conducted interviews and built empathy maps. Working people who are busy were identified as the main user demographic through research.
This user group confirmed original beliefs about GreenCoffee customers, however, the study found that time was the only problem preventing users from purchasing coffee, including commuting and being in a hurry, which makes it difficult to create time to purchase coffee.
Mapping Nina's user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated GreenCoffee app.
Nina is a busy marketing manager, who wants to buy her coffee effectively because she is not technologically savvy.
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.
Easy process was a key user need to address in the designs in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies.
Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was building and ordering a pizza, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.

I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Early designs allowed for some customization, but after the usability studies, I added additional descriptions to provide the price for each option. I also revised the design, so users see the price clearly when they first land on the screen.
The second usability study revealed frustration with the checkout flow. To streamline this flow, I consolidated the “Confirm order” and “Pickup store” to one “Order Summary” screen. I also adjusted the dropdown menu to the button on the ” Order Summary"screen.
The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for ordering a coffee and checkout. It also met user needs for a pickup option as well as more customization.

The app makes users feel likeGreenCoffee thinks about how to meet their needs.
One quote from peer feedback: “The app made it so easy and effective to order my coffee! I would definitely use this app as a go-to for a fresh and fast drink.”
While developing the GreenCoffee app, I discovered that the first app concepts are merely the beginning of the process. Each iteration of the app's design was informed by usability research and peer feedback.
